Please pray for the repose of the soul of 4th Degree Knight, Brother Jim Cuny who was born into his eternal life on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 after a long battle with cancer. Brother Jim was born September 14, 1935 in Chicago, IL and was 74 years old. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; Children, Janet Riley, Robert Cuny, & Lisa Smith; Grandchildren Sean Cuny, Katie Cuny, Eric Riley, Jacque Smith, Darcie Riley, & Phillip Smith; sister, Arlene Wilson, and may nieces, nephews and cousins including the cousins he found and visited in Switzerland.
Bro. Jim was a knight for 25 years in Ilinois, Tennessee and Alabama. Bro. Jim helped found Council 13679 and served as Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Council Historian, and served on many committees. He was always ready to volunteer in the best tradition of the Knights to participate in any activity sponsored by the council and was always willing to offer the benefit of his long experience in the Knights. He was very proud of his life membership.
A mass was held on October 25th at 8:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Athens in his memory.
Visitation was held at St. Paul's from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24th immediately followed by funeral mass at 12:00 p.m. A funeral dinner followed mass at the parish. |
Brother Herman Pouw was born in Holland September 21st 1923 and passed in Athens-Limestone hospital May 30th 2009 from cancer.
Herman and his wife Diphera relocated from Florida to live with their son Bill in Athens in April 2009 at the ages of 85. Herman has been an active K of C member with the Sacred Heart council #4998 in South Florida for 26 years and was Grand Knight for 2 years. He was the founder of the "Run For Life" which is a yearly event to raise funds for the protection of the unborn lives. The run starts in Homestead and ends at St. Augustine Florida.
Besides his wife, he left behind 8 children and 26 grand and great-grand children. Herman turned in his application for transfer to our council one month before his passing. |
Brother Daniel Cassady (1st Degree), died January 3, 2008, 43 years old. Knight since 1983.
Bro. Daniel was the son of a knight. He moved to Huntsville in 1973 and graduated from Johnson High School in 1982 where he was an All City receiver for the Jaguars, and nhamed to the "All Decade" team. He then attended UNA.
Bro. Daniel was a devoted family man. He married in June 1990 to his wife Sheila and had two daughters, Danielle and Lauren.
Bro. Daniel never met a stranger. He remembered everhone's face, if not their name. He loved camping and taking family vacations.
Though unable to attend council meetings due to his work schedule, Bro. Daniel was active in the breakfast group at church and participated in the chruch picnic each year and other Knights activities as his work schedule allowed.
